BART and Ferry to Sausalito from Oakland

If you're arriving during the day, the weather is nice and your luggage has wheels, you can combine the BART subway and the Sausalito Ferry to get from Oakland to downtown Sausalito and see beautiful scenery as you do so.

Service Information

Daily service between Mare Island, Vallejo, and Downtown San Francisco. Board this route at Gate E1 at the Downtown S.F. Terminal. Transit time approx. 60 minutes between Downtown S.F. and Vallejo and 15 minutes between Vallejo and Mare Island.

In front of the Ferry Building, take the “F” line trolley to PIER 39 Marina. Note: The “F” line trolley comes to Fisherman's Wharf from Castro/Market for Bart riders. Call (888) 500-INFO or 511 on your mobile phone.

Check in typically closes 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. In high season we advise customers to allow 120 minutes before check in closes to pass through all controls. Check in will close promptly, therefore, we advise customers to allow plenty of time prior to departure to pass through all controls.

Tickets & Clipper cards: Sausalito Ferry tickets may be purchased from ticket machines. Tickets may be purchased in advance and are useable on any Sausalito Ferry trip with 90 days of purchase. Ticket machines are available during daily hours of operation.

You can pack as much as you like when you travel by ferry, you can even bring your bike, your skis, and your dog! Pass the time unwinding in a comfortable chair with a drink or something delicious to eat as you watch the sea roll by.

Then, every 30 minutes, the ferry will take you back to San Francisco for $7 and drop you off at the Ferry Building OR at Fisherman's Wharf, a world-class destination.

Service is provided on four high-speed ADA accessible vessels between the Vallejo Ferry Terminal located at Mare Island Way and Georgia Street, the San Francisco Ferry Building Gate B, and San Francisco's Pier 41 in the Pier 39/Fisherman's Wharf area.

At Ferry Terminal

You should aim to arrive at the ferry terminal at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure time. This will give you enough time to check in, clear immigration and board the ferry.

Golden Gate Larkspur and Sausalito Ferry operate daily, with reduced service on weekends and specific holidays (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas week). Golden Gate Tiburon Ferry operates weekday commute service only.

Weekly service ferry departures start at 6:30am for weekdays and 9:30am for weekends from Liberty Landing Marina.

Ferry schedules at peak times find boats like the Mary Ann Market and the Put-in-Bay making round trips every half hour. The Miller Boat Line, in season (which is May to October), generally runs every half hour and offers plenty of free parking on the Catawba side.
